Nest 66

2016n66incoming2016n66t2016n66doubleWhoa! Nice long track with clear differential indicating that the turtle was on the beach long enough to nest, but wait a minute …

The tracks led to the bottom of a scarped dune where there was already a large staked off area.

What the … ??

On closer examination, it was clear that the latest turtle had not only nested, but had also broken the orange tape and broken and buried the stake sign in the process. Fortunately, she didn’t drag any markers back to the ocean.

Teresa and Nancy decided to stake the new nest as they normally would, placing it inside the larger staked area which had been investigated and marked earlier in the week as a “possible” nest.

Momma Turtle certainly had it all figured out. She created her nest as far inland as she could go in a “preferred” location.
